Galaxy Tab 10.1N gets unboxed, previewed, benchmarked, compared and very nearly reviewed on video

Samsung’s Made for Germany Galaxy Tab 10.1N will soon be hitting the German shelves. But before that we have a video for you of the device getting a thorough rundown in a typical Teutonic fashion.

In the video below by NewGadgets.de, we can see the new Galaxy Tab 10.1N first getting unboxed. After spending some time explaining the new design the video moves on to the software and the performance of the device in gaming and web browsing. From there it moves on to benchmarking and finally end it with a comparison with rival tablets.

As you can see the device looks nearly identical to the regular 10.1. The backside, which we are seeing for the first time, is exactly the same. Same goes for the software and everything else about the device. But Samsung seems confident that this should be enough to keep them out of legal troubles for a while, at least. This also means that Germans who have been waiting to get the device can do so now officially.

Android YouTube app updated

Android YouTube app updated, brings new UI for 10" tablets

Google has released an update to the YouTube app for Android, bringing a refreshed user interface for the 10″ tablets.

The update comes soon after YouTube launched its newly redesigned website, and makes better use of the ample screen estate 10″ tablets provide. Apart from the redesign, the app also comes with several minor bugfixes on all devices.

So, if you have a 10-inch Android tablet, make sure to head over to the Play Store and update the YouTube app.

Barnes and Noble launches the Android-running NOOKcolor eBook reader, sells for 249 US dollars

Barnes and Noble has just unveiled its latest eBook reader, the NOOKcolor. It packs a 7-inch color touchscreen, offers Wi-Fi connectivity and runs Android. It’s so much more than a traditional eBook reader.

So, the E-Ink display is now gone, replaced by the 16M-color 1024-by-600-pixel IPS touchscreen with multi-touch support (read “pinch-to-zoom”) and viewing angles reaching the impressive 178 degrees. The NOOKcolor comes with 8GB of onboard storage for up to 6000 eBooks (there are over 2 million compatible eBooks) and there is also a microSD memory card slot ready to accommodate cards with up to 32GB of memory.

The newly announced NOOKcolor can also be used for web browsing (over Wi-Fi – there is no support for 3G) or as a portable media player. It features a built-in mono speaker, a standard 3.5mm audio jack and plays MP3 and AAC audio files as well as videos in MP4 format.

The NOOKcolor also displays files in EPUB, PDF, TXT, DOC, DOCX, XLS, PPT, JPG, formats (keep in mind, though, that LIT, AMZ, LRZ, LRX files are not supported).

The NOOKcolor lets you listen to the Pandora internet radio, play some games (Chess, Sudoku, Crossword Puzzles) and, according to the manufacturer, will stay awake for up to 8 hours (with Wi-Fi switched off) before you have to recharge its battery.

By the way, even if the NOOKcolor is based on the Android platform, it has no access to the Android Market so you have to rely on the B&N’s own app store.

The NOOKcolor is now on pre-order in the US (for 249 US dollars, which is 100 bucks more than the previous Wi-Fi-only model) and will start shipping on 19 November 2010.

Acer TravelMate B113 11.6 inch Sandy Bridge gets released

The TravelMate B113 ultraportable laptop has been launched by Acer, offering 4GB of RAM, 500GB of storage, and a 11.6 inch display running at 1366×768 pixel resolution.

If you’re looking for a compact laptop but don’t want to break the bank by springing for an ultrabook, the TravelMate series is offered at some very competitive prices.

The base model can be had for around �450 ($563), but offers a rather lowly 1.4Ghz Celeron processor. If you want some Sandy Bridge magic, you’ll have to fork over �560 (around $700) for the version with a 1.5Ghz Core i3-2377M processor.

All of the B113 variants feature the aforementioned RAM, storage and dispaly, as well as Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, USB 3.0, HDMI and a 4400mAh battery, as well as a special matte coating on the screen designed to reduce glare.

Purported images of iPad 3 shell surface, said to contain a bigger battery, different display and different cameras

The next generation iPad is nearing its launch and so the rumor mills are now in full force. What we have today, though, is not a rumor but a purported photograph of the aluminum shell of the next generation iPad (which I will refer to as the iPad 3 for now).

What you see above is the aforementioned photograph, with the iPad 3 shell on the right. The photograph was uncovered by RepairLabs, who noticed that the new shell has different mounts for the logic board, which suggests a redesigned logic board, most probably to accommodate a larger battery. They also said that the shell did not look noticeably thicker than the iPad 2′s, which is contrary to current rumors that suggested that the iPad 3 will be slightly thicker.

Next they noticed that the camera seemed a bit different on the iPad 3 compared to the one on the iPad 2. Considering the fact the camera on the iPad 2 was quite lame when it came to still images, it’s likely that Apple would beef it up in the next version. Perhaps we would see auto-focus being included, along with a new back-lit sensor and 1080p video recording.

Lastly, they noticed that the mounting for the LCD is different, which means Apple will be using a different display. This does not necessarily mean that it will be a Retina display, but that does seem to be the most likely explanation.

As usual, we would suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt. It’s not uncommon these days to find images tuned expertly in a way that they would align perfectly with the currently circulating rumors, thus making the viewer believe that they might in fact be real. However, it doesn’t seem like it will be long before we find out what the iPad 3 really is like. That is assuming Apple sticks with its March schedule for announcing new iPads.

The HTC EVO 4G better show us some GSM love

The HTC EVO 4G (a.k.a. Supersonic) is one uber-smartphone. Slim, sleek, powerful and smart. It’s only that it works over CDMA networks only and we don’t have much of those here in Europe. Instead we stick to GSM networks and that’s one of the reasons our primary website is called GSMarena.com. The “Arena” thing was chosen with the old gladiator arenas in mind. We like to think that our website is where various GSM phones meet and clash in a battle for your attention. But I digress…

The thing is – we get a lot of emails from you guys about the HTC EVO 4G. No, we’re not neglecting it on purpose. We certainly don’t have anything against HTC or Android – a quick look over at our homepage will prove that. It’s just that we don’t cover CDMA-only handsets. Simple as that. There’s no covert ploy here and we’re not blind and deaf. We know all about the EVO 4G and we certainly hope HTC will make one for our type of network.

But until then – this post will remain our only scoop the EVO 4G will get from us.

The EVO 4G (or may be you know it as the HTC Supersonic) is like a geek’s dream come true. It packs the zippy 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a huge 4.3″ capacitive touchscreen, and runs the Android OS v2.1 Eclair with the latest Sense UI on top of it.

The HTC EVO 4G is also the first US phone to feature WiMAX support. It also comes with support for Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth and has a secondary camera for videocalls (not many Androids have one). The primary camera sports autofocus, dual LED flash and is capable of taking 8-megapxel images and 720p videos.

And guess what! The EVO 4G has an HDMI port too. And a kickstand! Whew, that boy surely packs some serious gear. But again – until we see some GSM love, it will remain off our homepage and off our database. That’s the way we run things around here – sorry!

HTC apologizes for all delayed HTC One orders with $25 Google Play credit

HTC might be having some trouble lately, but that doesn’t stop it from caring for the early HTC One adopters. The first batch of the flagship suffered delays due to some production shortages, which were recently overcome.

If your HTC One order was delayed because of those production hiccups but you didn’t give up on the One, HTC will soon reward your patience with a $25 Google Play voucher.

Here is the official statement from HTC’s email:

“We realize that your shipment was unexpectedly delayed, but we hope that your new HTC One has been worth the wait! Thanks for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your loyalty to HTC, and as a gesture of our thanks, we would like to give you a complimentary $25 Google Gift Credit.”

The following email was sent from HTC Shop America, so it’s unclear if other regions will get the same kind treatment.
